Is the Left the NEW Right?!

Posted on May 3, 2011

I cannot tell you how many times I began to enter an establishment through what was traditionally the “entrance” door when someone was coming out of it. It happens to me fairly often and mostly by adults. Is this a new trend?!

I ask because I don’t think it is going away. When it happens to me, I just stand there and look at the person in amazement. It’s still really new to me. I guess what I need to do is simply go in the “exit” door.

How and why is this beginning to occur? What precipitated this change in human behavior, at least, in the United States? At first, I thought it originated with rebelling youth or immigrants who were unaware — which it still might be either — but my first experience was with a native U.S. adult male. A businessman shot out of the entrance door (right side) of a Quik Trip and thanked me for opening the door for him. What?!

That was a few months ago, and it’s all been downhill from there.

Probably once a month or more, someone walks in front of me exiting the entrance door. It makes me wonder — Is the left the new right … no, your other right.

So, I ask again … why? What on earth makes them feel comfortable enough to do that? What changed?
