The people at Eco-Hearth are as kind to their writers as they are to the environment.  It’s a startup, though, and, as it is with most startups, there is limited funding for paying their writers.

How much are Eco-Hearth writers paid, you may ask?  I believe it is still a minimum of $2 to $5, along with shared revenue.

Here is the process to be considered:

Phase I

  • Send an e-mail to
  • Include links to samples and your resume.
  • DO NOT attach documents.  Instead, insert them into the body of your email.

Phase II

  • You will be asked to submit 10 article ideas/titles about which you are passionate (they should relate to the website, by the way).
  • Once you submit the ideas/titles, you will be notified of which one was selected for you to write a 500-700 word article.
  • This will determine whether you are selected to write for Eco-Hearth.

Phase III

  • If you are approved, you will speak to the one of the co-founders/principals.
  • You will be asked to sign their agreement and commit to write so many articles a month for them.

If you’re looking for a side gig with a byline and not too worried about the pay, or if you’re passionate about the environment, this might be something you’d want to consider.
